Federal Law requires that anyone operating a forklift in America must be trained and certified. The training must consist of the following two parts:
1. Instructional training that covers the safe operation of forklifts with the trainees having the opportunity to ask questions.
AND
2. Practical certification by the company that the operator has demonstrated the ability to operate the equipment.

Our instructor-led training course is taught online with students seeing and hearing the presentations on their computer or the telephone. Communications are two-way, allowing for our trainers to engage the students in the subject matter and for students to ask questions and get answers. Upon successful completion of the internet training, Workplace Safety Trainers will send the student – either electronically or through the United States Postal Service – a Forklift Certification Card signed by the online trainer.
Once the student receives the certification card either online or through the mail from Workplace Safety Trainers, it must be signed by someone at the workplace who can evaluate the students’ ability to operate the equipment safely. According to OSHA Standard 1910.178(l)(2)(ii) this can be performed by anyone the employer designates in the workplace “Who has knowledge, training, and experience” of powered industrial trucks1910.178(l)(2)(iii).
This person can be any competent fellow worker, supervisor, manager, etc who themselves operates a forklift. Workplace Safety Trainers provides, with each student’s certification packet, a copy of the “Practical Training Evaluation Form” as well as a copy of the “Train-the-Trainer” documentation needed to satisfy the required practical “Training” portion of this Standard. Once the employer-designated person has filled out these two user-friendly forms he or she will then be able to sign the Practical Evaluator” portion of the Workplace Safety Trainers issued certification card making this process OSHA compliant.
